TMR to assess North Shore traffic

PRESSURE is building on the State Government to address growing traffic congestion on Townsville’s northern beaches after Hinchinbrook MP Nick Dametto raised the issue in parliament last week.

In a Question Without Notice, Mr Dametto asked Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey if he would commit to future planning and development to relieve the bottleneck faced by motorists every day at the intersections of Shaw Road, Woolcock St and North Shore Boulevard.

Mr Bailey responded that he was aware of congestion in the area and while there was no funding currently allocated to the intersection, he was happy for TMR staff to meet on site Mr Dametto to discuss the issue further.

“I welcome the Minister’s response as a step in the right direction and look forward to continuing discussions with TMR and the Minister in order to lobby them for funding for an overpass in this area,” he said.

“Townsville’s northern beaches population continues to grow at an exponential rate and we need adequate infrastructure to keep up.”
