National Ag Day promotes good cause

Hinchinbrook MP Nick Dametto is urging locals to support a QCWA fundraiser this Thursday on National Agriculture Day.

A DAY celebrating agriculture will be used to promote a good local cause this Thursday when several local businesses and organisations join forces to help out the Queensland Country Women’s Association (QWCA).

National Agriculture Day aims to highlight the immense contribution agriculture makes to Australia, with this year’s theme focused on reminding all Australians what they have in common with their country cousins.

Hinchinbrook MP Nick Dametto is calling on the local community to chip in at the bake stall fundraiser to raise money for the QCWA Long Pocket/Abergowrie branch organised by Bendigo Bank Ingham.

“Agriculture remains the backbone of our community and I look forward to adding my support behind this event.” he said.

“The QCWA continues to raise much need funds to help support those in our ag sectors that need it most, such as spearheading the flood relief fundraiser and now helping out families ravaged by drought. This Thursday, why not treat yourself to some of their delicious scones and other baked goods and support this worthy cause.”

Bendigo Bank Ingham, Majestic Café, JK’s Deli, Wilmar, Canegrowers, Women in Sugar, Mr Dametto, Hinchinbrook Shire Council and the Hinchinbrook Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Tourism are all supporting the fundraiser.

People are encouraged to wear a green shirt and make a gold coin donation in support.

Donations can be made at either Bendigo Bank Ingham, JK’s Deli or the Majestic Café, while Women in Sugar will also be selling tickets for a raffle on the day.

“I’d like to congratulate all the local businesses and organisations who are supporting this fundraiser and urge the community to get on board this Thursday and support the QCWA,” Mr Dametto said.

“Hinchinbrook shines when we all come together to support a good cause and what better way than to do it on National Agriculture Day.

The fundraiser will be held outside Bendigo Bank’s Ingham branch between 9am and 11am this Thursday.
