Hinchinbrook MP ‘stuck in bed’ for the Pyjama Foundation
22nd July 2022
Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) Deputy Leader and Hinchinbrook MP, Nick Dametto, was ‘stuck in bed’ with Star 106.3’s breakfast radio presenter, Crystal Vas, local hospitality icon, Jamie Fitzpatrick and former Townsville Fire captain, Councillor Suzy Batkovic to raise much-needed funds for the Pyjama Foundation.
Friday 22nd of July is National Pyjama Day, the Pyjama Foundation provides support to children in foster care in Townsville by providing them with a buddy who visits for an hour a week to build confidence, strong relationships and learn life skills, and in some cases, the support provides an opportunity to change the direction of their lives.
The Pyjama Stars, Nick Dametto MP, Cr Suzy Batkovic, Jamie Fitzpatrick and Crystal Vas were ‘stuck in bed’ in the Snooze Domain carpark until they each individually raised $1000 towards the cause.
Together the Pyjama Stars raised more than $9000 which well exceeded their $5000 goal.
The Hinchinbrook MP thanked those who generously donated, and Star 106.3 for organising the fundraising event and inviting him to participate.
“It’s great to see there are some amazing not-for-profit organisations out here in Townsville like the Pyjama Foundation supporting foster children who are going through some pretty hard times,” Mr Dametto said.
“Having mentors and people to work one on one with foster children not only boosts their morale but supports them through these tough times and it is so heartening to hear we have people in the community who are willing to take on these roles.
“Without the support and kindness of Hinchinbrook businesses, family and friends I wouldn’t have been able to raise over $3500 towards the Pyjama Foundation today.
“A special mention to Biodiversity Australia for donating $1020, Mams Redeem Team $283.50, 1 Million Strong $263.75, Future Drone Technology’s $263.75, Paradise Outdoor Advertising $200, Optimise Health and Wellness, Kara Christopher $105 and J&S H-VAC Services $105. Also thank you to my mum, Lois Dametto and my sister, Yolanda Deluca for your support and donations.
“And how could I forget giving a shout out to the boss man, Robbie Katter MP for his donation, sounds like he needed me out of bed and back in the office.”
