HINCHINBROOK MP Nick Dametto is sporting a slick new look after deciding to part with his hair in support of a fundraiser for cancer patients.

Mr Dametto said he was inspired by organiser Serenella Fava’s brave decision to shave her hair at Lucinda Point Hotel last Saturday night.

“It was such a selfless act by Serenella in wanting to raise money to help others and we just couldn’t let her do it alone,” he said.

“My hairline isn’t what it used to be, but it’ll grow back.”

Ms Fava tragically lost her daughter Roxanne to cancer in 2017 at the age of just 27. Roxanne left behind two sons, Ryan and Daniel. Roxanne’s former partner Karl Dodd and Ms Fava’s brother-in-law Aldo Fava also shaved their hair in support.

“It was an absolute success. It was an awesome night. People were wonderful, so supportive and encouraging,” said Ms Fava.

“Everyone came along and celebrated the night.”

The Ingham grandmother was joined by friends and family for the event, which raised money for cancer charity Audrey’s Angels, palliative care and local cancer patients and their families.

“I’d like to thank everyone who donated to the shave. The generosity of the Herbert River District never ceases to amaze me. The Hotel even raffled off a meat tray on the night in support of the fundraiser which was just awesome,” Mr Dametto said.

“I’m sure Roxanne would be looking down feeling so proud that her mum is helping others like this.”

Almost $5000 has been raised so far, with Ms Fava still tallying more donations.

“The Hinchinbrook community is amazing. They’re just so supportive and people always step up,” Ms Fava said.
