HINCHINBROOK MP, Nick Dametto urges Townsville City Council to investigate alternative exits to the seaside community, Bushland Beach.

“It’s ludicrous a population of thousands of people could be marooned because of one incident and a lack of road infrastructure.

“I feel the community’s frustrations, early morning road delays can lead to people being late for school, work and even missing flights and important medical appointments.

Residents are pushing to connect Lionel Turner Drive and North Shore Boulevard to improve accessibility and provide an alternative when incidents occur.

“I am of the understanding that the construction of this road would usually be the responsibility of the developer. An alternative is Townsville City Council constructs and back charges the expenses for the works. This would be mean Bushy Beach residents would be alleviated of this problem much sooner.

“The car fire on Wednesday 14 July caused delays for many road users and I am awaiting the traffic management report to determine the process and identify improvements for future incidents.

“Roads play a central role in a regions development, with road upgrades comes an increase in accessibility which can improve supply and demand, stimulate economic growth and improve safety standards.

“I look forward to meeting with Mayor Jenny Hill and Townsville City Council representatives to discuss a potential way to expedite the construction of this link road for the Bushland Beach community. This may include accessing State government funding,” said Mr Dametto.
