Dametto pushes for Ingham Railway Station Revamp

The State Member for Hinchinbrook and Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) Deputy Leader, Nick Dametto, has called for funding to be made available in the 2024-2025 Budget for beautification works at the Queensland Rail Ingham Station.
The Hinchinbrook MP stated in a letter to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads that funding for the Ingham Railway Station was needed to uplift the profile of the town and improve the overall travel experience for passengers.
“Despite the station’s functional adequacy, the lack of aesthetic appeal not only fails to represent our vibrant town positively but also diminishes the overall travel experience for passengers, particularly visitors who form an integral part of our local economy,” Mr Dametto said.
“Like many regional towns, Ingham faces unique challenges in terms of transportation infrastructure. With limited options available, the Ingham Station serves as a crucial link connecting us to major cities like Cairns and Brisbane. This is especially significant for our elderly residents and tourists, who often rely on Queensland Rail services as their primary mode of transportation for long distances.
“During a recent site visit, it became apparent that while the Ingham Station may meet functional requirements, its appearance does not align with the warm hospitality and beauty our town has to offer.
“This is a missed opportunity not only to enhance the experience for travellers but also to showcase the unique charm of Ingham to those passing through which may impact future visitation.
“I would love to see the Ingham Railway Station showcase ‘The Hinchinbrook Way’, our region’s tourism brand that showcases our culture, history, natural attractions, and way of life.
“The Ingham Railway Station should be a welcoming place that tells a story about our region as soon as new and returning passengers step on to the platform.
“By improving the aesthetic appeal of the Ingham Station, we have the opportunity to elevate the profile of the Queensland Rail product and our town, thereby attracting more visitors and encouraging economic growth.”
