LAST CHANCE TO SIGN PETITION: RESOLVE HORROR TRAFFIC CONGESTION

Northern suburbs in Townsville have seen a significant increase in population over recent years which has led to severe congestion during peak traffic times. Residents and road users are being encouraged to support a petition to urge Transport and Main Roads Minister, Mark Bailey to fast-track the necessary infrastructure upgrades along the Bruce Highway and Woolcock Street.
Katter’s Australian Party Deputy Leader and Hinchinbrook MP, Nick Dametto, said he is encouraging all Townsville residents to back the petition with just days until the closing date.
“The Queensland Parliament petition has reached just over 2,000 signatures but time is ticking for residents to sign it with the closing date being Friday the 14th of April 2023,” Mr Dametto said.
“We need to send a clear message to Minister Bailey; Townsville residents deserve to have the same road infrastructure upgrades to booming areas just like those areas do down in the big smoke.
“It’s great to see the State Government opening a new Ambulance Station in Burdell but with the current road network ambulances will be stuck in the Station driveway.
“The roads in the Northerns suburbs of Townsville were not designed to handle the current traffic volume which has led to the Bruce Highway, Woolcock Street, Shaw Road, Mount Low Parkway, North Shore Boulevard, Garland Road, Deeragun Road and Wagner Street reaching full capacity at peak traffic times.
“Most residents rely on their vehicle because the only available public transportation is the bus services, which have limited routes and operates at specific times. Also, there are limited options for cycling and walking in the area which means residents have no other choice but to drive.”
The Hinchinbrook MP thanked those who have taken the time to sign and share the petition and looks forward to receiving Minister Bailey’s response to share with the community.
